Cool off in Kenya’s quirky caves

A flight to Kenya lands you in one of the world’s hottest countries, so what better way to cool off than by exploring some of Kenya’s unusual caves?

Flying to Kenya: FAQs

Where should I go on safari in Kenya?

Kenya’s most popular safari park is the Masai Mara. The reserve has plenty of wildlife and numbers are boosted dramatically between July and October when the zebra and wildebeest migrate through the park. For fewer people and a more serene wildlife encounter, Meru National park has the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffalo), plus zebra, kudu and giraffes.

How do you get from Nairobi to Mombasa?

There used to be an overnight train between the two cities but this has been replaced by a high-speed service which takes around four-and-a-half hours. There are also internal flights available, with a journey time of around an hour.

What should I pack for a trip to Kenya?

Fly to Kenya with clothes that are suitable for a safari – you’ll want to blend in with your surroundings, so avoid bright colours. Loose, comfortable clothes are best for the heat. Bring layers for cooler evenings and some beachwear for making the most of Kenya’s pristine sands.

Why we love Kenya

“Heading out on safari in Kenya is the experience of a lifetime. The beaches here are just as amazing though. Relaxing on the sands and snorkeling over the coral reefs are sure to be some of your favourite Kenyan memories.”

The best of Kenya

Kenya is, in so many ways, the epitome of Africa. A vast, often unforgiving, but always beautiful landscape populated by different tribes and cultures, all shot through with some of the most majestic creatures on earth.

Kenya is also the spiritual home of the safari and of wildlife conservation, which go hand in hand. Travel here to see the ‘Big Five’, but also to learn about how the Kenyans stopped their famous animals from being poached to extinction.

In the cities you’ll find the buzz of life, friendly people and superb museums. Discover more of Africa’s heart before you fly to Kenya with our online Atlas magazine.
