Reasons to visit Chengdu

Meet Chengdu’s pandas

Hugely popular with visitors to Chengdu, the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is a 45-minute drive north of the city by bus, taxi or as part of a guided tour.

Visit early in the morning when these naturally docile creatures are at their most active and watch them dine on their favourite snack among lush bamboo groves.

The centre is focused on the care of giant pandas and isn’t a zoo, however it’s also home to other animals including golden monkeys and red pandas. The raccoon-like red pandas have bags of energy and like to keep you on your toes, so keep your eyes peeled for mischief.

This beautiful structure is regularly developed and expanded, with more buildings and shrines created every year.
