Old Town is still impressive with its amber-brick buildings, openwork tracery windows, and its ancient mosques that remain as a sign of ancient splendour. Use the Shatt al-Arab River as your guide and you’ll see its most urban side at the Corniche al-Basora pier and its more traditional side in the neighbourhoods along the riverbanks.

If you decide to book tickets to Basra using Etihad’s Deals section, don't forget to go to Sinbad Island and explore its beautiful gardens in the middle of the river. With Etihad Airways you can find good flight deals to Basra, but remember that the best season to travel is during the fall and winter. Regarding accommodation, it won't be too difficult to find cheap hotels in Basra as tourism is still growing.
